UPS & FedEx Invoice Charges Explained: A–Z Glossary (2026)

2026 UPS and FedEx invoice charges: this A–Z glossary explains 88 charges and invoice lines, from UPS’s “Residential Surcharge” ($6.50 Ground, $7.10 from December 21, 2026) to FedEx’s “Residential Delivery Chg.” ($6.45 Ground, $6.90 from January 4, 2027).

Quick answer: A UPS or FedEx invoice lists the transportation charge for each package, then every surcharge, adjustment and fee as its own line, often under an abbreviated name. Find the line below to see what it means, what it cost in 2026, what it costs after the 2027 rate change where the carrier has published it, and our full guide to that charge. Both carriers raise most of these charges for 2027: UPS on December 21, 2026 and FedEx on January 4, 2027.

How to Read a UPS Invoice

The UPS invoice groups charges in a few places, and knowing which section a line sits in tells you a lot about where it came from.

Shipment detail

Each package is listed with its service line, such as “Ground Residential” or “Next Day Air Residential.” That line is the shipping charge. Surcharges such as “Residential Surcharge” and “Declared Value” are listed under the same package. During peak season, demand surcharges appear there too, named after the charge they ride on, such as “Demand Surcharge Addl Handling.”

Address Corrections

Address corrections have their own section. A Ground correction reads “Address Correction Ground,” followed by “Address Correction Fuel Surcharge,” because fuel is charged on the correction fee too.

Shipping Charge Corrections

When UPS re-measures, re-weighs or reclassifies a package, the change appears in the Shipping Charge Corrections section with “Shipping Charge Correction” in front of the charge name. Corrections typically land on a later invoice than the original shipment. For size corrections, the detail lists the Audited Dimensions next to the Customer Entered Dimensions, which is where to check UPS’s measurement against yours.

Adjustments & Other Charges

Charges that happen after shipping, such as a package UPS couldn’t deliver and sent back (“Ground Undeliverable Return”), appear in Adjustments & Other Charges. Surcharges added after the fact carry the word “Adjustment,” such as “Residential Surcharge Adjustment” or “Delivery Area Surcharge Adjustment.”

Fuel

“Fuel Surcharge” appears under each package. Because fuel applies to most other charges, it also shows up in versions tied to them: “Address Correction Fuel Surcharge,” “Returns Fuel Surcharge,” “Shipping Charge Correction Fuel Surcharge” and “Fuel Surcharge Adjustment.” A voided shipment shows a matching “Void Fuel Surcharge” credit.

PDF invoice vs. billing data file

The PDF invoice spells charges out; the billing data files (UPS Billing Data in CSV, XML or EDI 210, or detailed reports from the UPS Billing Center) abbreviate some names and add a charge code, such as RES for the Residential Surcharge or EVS for Declared Value. Codes are listed in the entries below where our guides cover them. Use the data file for any real audit, since each tracking number and charge is on its own line. How to Read a FedEx Invoice

FedEx invoices use short fee names from FedEx’s list of invoice fee names, such as “Residential Delivery Chg.” or “DAS Extended Resi.” A few things to know:

• One label, several triggers. “Additional Handling” covers dimensions, weight and packaging, and “Delivery Signature Options” covers Indirect, Direct and Adult signatures. The amount, or the package’s billed size and weight, tells you which applied.
• Peak charges are separate lines. During peak season, demand charges appear under their Service Guide names, such as “Demand — Oversize Charge,” next to the base surcharge on the same package.
• Fuel is calculated on top. “Fuel Surcharge” is a weekly percentage applied to the transportation charge plus most other surcharges, so it moves whenever those change.
• Dimensional weight isn’t a fee. It shows up as a billed weight higher than the actual weight, sometimes with a “Dimensional Weight” note.
• Not every charge is on the list. The Unauthorized Package Charge and the remote Delivery Area Surcharge tier aren’t on FedEx’s abbreviation list, so look for their Service Guide names or amounts.

How to Use This Glossary

Entries are in alphabetical order by the wording on the invoice. Names in bold are the wording our guides quote from UPS or FedEx invoices and billing files. Entries marked “rate guide name” use the carrier’s rate guide or price list name, because our guides don’t document a different invoice wording for them. The 2027 amount is shown where the carrier has published it: UPS from December 21, 2026 and FedEx from January 4, 2027. Where it says “not in the preview” or “not in FedEx’s 2027 change list,” the carrier hasn’t published a 2027 amount yet.

FedEx’s single invoice label for the Additional Handling Surcharge, used whether the trigger was dimensions, weight (over 50 lbs actual) or non-standard packaging. 2026: $29.50–$40.75 (dimensions), $46–$58.75 (weight), $26.50–$33.75 (packaging) per package by zone. Additional Handling - Length + Girth (UPS, billing file: “Additional Handling - Length+Girth,” code AHG). UPS Additional Handling for a package whose length plus girth exceeds 105 inches. 2026: $30.00–$40.50 per package by zone. From Dec 21, 2026: $32.75–$44.00. Additional Handling - Weight (UPS, billing file: “Addl. Handling weight,” code AHW). UPS Additional Handling for a package over UPS’s weight threshold of 50 lbs. 2026: $46.50–$58.75 per package by zone. From Dec 21, 2026: $50.50–$63.75. Full guide: UPS Additional Handling – Weight.

Additional Handling Minimum Billable Weight Applied (UPS). A note that UPS billed the package at the minimum billable weight that comes with dimension-based Additional Handling. 2026: 40 lb minimum. From Dec 21, 2026: 50 lb minimum. Full guide: UPS Additional Handling – Dimensions.

Additional Handling- Non-corrugated (UPS). UPS Additional Handling for packaging, most often a box or container that isn’t corrugated cardboard, such as a plastic tote, a metal or wood container, or a bag. 2026: $26.75–$33.75 per package by zone. Address Correction (FedEx). FedEx corrected an incomplete or incorrect address, delivered to a P.O. box, or rerouted the package. 2026: $25.50 per package. From Jan 4, 2027: $27. Full guide: FedEx Address Correction.

Address Correction Fuel Surcharge (UPS). The fuel surcharge charged on a UPS address correction fee. If the correction itself is invalid, dispute both lines. 2026: the weekly fuel percentage, applied to the correction fee. Full guide: UPS Address Correction.

Address Correction Ground (UPS). UPS corrected an incorrect or incomplete address on a Ground package. It appears in the invoice’s Address Corrections section. 2026: $25.25 per package. From Dec 21, 2026: $27.50. Full guide: UPS Address Correction.

Adult Signature Required (UPS, rate guide name). UPS delivers only to someone 21 or older who shows a valid government-issued photo ID. 2026: $9.35 per package. From Dec 21, 2026: $10.25. Full guide: UPS Adult Signature Required.

Air Shipping Document (ASD) surcharge (UPS, new, rate guide name). A per-package charge for UPS Air shipments still tendered with a paper Air Shipping Document, which UPS is discontinuing. 2026: none. From Jan 4, 2027: $5.00 per package. Full guide: UPS 2027 rate increase.

C

Call Tag (3 UPS Pickup Attempts) (UPS, rate guide name). UPS prints a return label and a driver goes to your customer to collect the return, with up to three attempts. It is billed when you request it. 2026: $14.50 per label. From Dec 21, 2026: $15.75. Full guide: UPS Call Tag vs Return Label.

Collect on Delivery (C.O.D.) (UPS, rate guide name). UPS collects payment from the recipient at delivery and remits it to you through UPS Capital. 2026: $22.50 per package. From Dec 21, 2026: $24.50. Full guide: UPS COD fee.

D

Daily Pickup (UPS, rate guide name). A weekly Scheduled Pickup where the driver attempts a pickup every business day. 2026: $39.00 per week. From Dec 21, 2026: $42.50 per week. Full guide: UPS Pickup Fees.

DAS Alaska Comm. / DAS Alaska Resi. (FedEx). FedEx’s Delivery Area Surcharge for a destination ZIP code in Alaska. 2026: $46 per package. From Jan 4, 2027: $48.75. Full guide: FedEx Delivery Area Surcharge.

DAS Comm. (FedEx). FedEx Delivery Area Surcharge on a commercial delivery to a ZIP code on FedEx’s DAS list. 2026: $4.45 per package. From Jan 4, 2027: $4.70. Full guide: FedEx Delivery Area Surcharge.

DAS Hawaii Comm. / DAS Hawaii Resi. (FedEx). FedEx’s Delivery Area Surcharge for a destination ZIP code in Hawaii. 2026: $16.25 per package. From Jan 4, 2027: $17.50. Full guide: FedEx Delivery Area Surcharge.

DAS remote tier (FedEx, rate guide name). FedEx’s remote-area Delivery Area Surcharge. It isn’t on FedEx’s abbreviation list, so look for a DAS line with “Remote” in it or a $16.75 DAS amount. 2026: $16.75 per package. From Jan 4, 2027: $17.75. Full guide: FedEx Delivery Area Surcharge.

DAS Resi. (FedEx). FedEx Delivery Area Surcharge on a residential delivery to a ZIP code on FedEx’s DAS list. 2026: $6.60 per package. From Jan 4, 2027: $7. Full guide: FedEx Delivery Area Surcharge.

Declared Value (UPS, code EVS). The charge for declaring a value above UPS’s included $100 of liability. Enhanced Maximum Declared Value packages use the same line. 2026: free up to $100; $5.10 for $100.01–$300; above $300, $1.70 per $100 of the total value. Declared Value Charge (FedEx). The fee for declaring a value above FedEx’s $100 default liability. It is not insurance. 2026: $4.95 for $100.01–$300, then $1.65 per $100 above $300. From Jan 4, 2027: $5.40 and $1.80 per $100. Full guide: FedEx Declared Value.

Delivery Area Surcharge (UPS, codes RDC commercial, RDR residential). UPS charges it on deliveries to ZIP codes on its published Area Surcharge listing. 2026: $4.50 commercial, $6.55 residential. From Dec 21, 2026: $4.90 and $7.15. Full guide: UPS Delivery Area Surcharge.

Delivery Confirmation Signature (UPS, code DCS). UPS Signature Required on a residential delivery: UPS obtains a signature at delivery. 2026: $7.70 per package. From Dec 21, 2026: $8.40. Full guide: UPS Signature Required.

Delivery Intercept (UPS, rate guide name). You asked UPS to stop, redirect, hold or return a package already in transit. Delivery Signature Options (FedEx). One label for all three FedEx signature services. The amount tells you which one was used, and FedEx charges it even if no signature was obtained. 2026: $7.60 Indirect, $7.60 Direct, $10 Adult. Demand — Additional Handling Surcharge (FedEx). FedEx’s peak charge on a package that already has the Additional Handling Surcharge, added on top of it. 2026: $8.80–$11.85 per package in the 2026 peak. Full guide: FedEx Demand Surcharges.

Demand — Oversize Charge (FedEx). FedEx’s peak charge on a package that already has the Oversize Charge. 2026: $95.75–$117.25 per package in the 2026 peak. Full guide: FedEx Demand Surcharges.

Demand — Residential Delivery Charge (FedEx). A peak charge only for enterprise shippers with more than 20,000 residential and Ground Economy packages in a week, based on how far that week’s volume exceeds their June baseline. Demand — Unauthorized Charge (FedEx, called “Demand — Ground Unauthorized Package Charge” before September 21, 2026). FedEx’s peak charge on a package that already has the Unauthorized Package Charge. 2026: $535–$595 per package in the 2026 peak. Full guide: FedEx Demand Surcharges.

Demand Surcharge (FedEx). FedEx’s per-package peak charge on Express and Ground residential services, which runs from September 28, 2026 to January 17, 2027. 2026: $0.50–$0.80 per Ground residential package; $1.30–$2.55 per overnight package. 2027: demand surcharges aren’t in FedEx’s 2027 change list. Demand Surcharge Addl Handling (UPS, code DAH). UPS’s peak surcharge on a package that also has an Additional Handling charge, billed on top of it. 2026: $8.75–$11.90 per package in the 2026 peak. Full guide: UPS Peak Surcharge.

Demand Surcharge Large Package (UPS, code DCH). UPS’s peak surcharge on a package that also has a Large Package Surcharge. 2026: $96.25–$117.50 per package in the 2026 peak. Full guide: UPS Peak Surcharge.

Dimensional Weight (FedEx). Not a separate fee: a note or adjustment showing FedEx billed on size rather than actual weight. Check it against length × width × height ÷ 139. 2026: no fee; it raises the billed weight. Full guide: FedEx Dimensional Weight.

Disbursement fee (UPS, rate guide name). UPS’s fee on import duty and tax it pays to U.S. Customs on your behalf. 2026: 2.5% of the duty and tax, $17.50 minimum. From Dec 21, 2026: not in UPS’s 2027 preview yet. Full guide: UPS Import C.O.D. charges.

E

Enhanced Maximum Declared Value (UPS, rate guide name). Lets an eligible Next Day Air package be declared at up to $70,000 instead of $50,000. It has no line of its own; the cost shows on the Declared Value line. 2026: no separate fee; $1.70 per $100 of value. From Dec 21, 2026: $1.84 per $100. Fuel Surcharge (FedEx). A weekly percentage applied to the net transportation rate plus most other surcharges on the package. 2026: changes weekly; check FedEx’s fuel page for the week you shipped. Full guide: FedEx Fuel Surcharge.

Fuel Surcharge (UPS). A weekly percentage listed under each package, applied to transportation and most other charges. 2026: 29.50% Ground and 33.00% Domestic Air for the week of October 26, 2026. Index-based weekly; UPS’s 2027 preview doesn’t change it. Full guide: UPS Fuel Surcharge.

Fuel Surcharge Adjustment (UPS). A correction to the fuel charged on a package, usually after another charge on it changed. 2026: the weekly fuel percentage. Full guide: UPS Fuel Surcharge.

Ground Unauthorized Package Charge (FedEx, also “Unauthorized Package Charge”). FedEx Ground or Home Delivery package over 150 lbs, longer than 108 inches, or over 165 inches in length plus girth. 2026: $1,875 per package (international packages: $700). Ground Undeliverable Return (UPS). UPS couldn’t deliver a Ground package and sent it back. You pay for the return trip, plus fuel, on top of the original shipping. It appears in Adjustments & Other Charges. 2026: return transportation plus fuel. Full guide: UPS Return to Sender.

Ground/3 Day Select Shipping Document (GSD) surcharge (UPS, new, rate guide name). A per-package charge for Ground or 3 Day Select shipments still tendered with a paper Ground Shipping Document, which UPS is discontinuing. 2026: none. From Jan 4, 2027: $10.00 per package. I

Import C.O.D. (ICOD) Fee (UPS, UPS’s import-fees page: “International Collect on Delivery (COD) Fee”, rate guide name). Charged to the U.S. recipient when UPS collects unpaid duties, taxes and fees at delivery. Paying online before delivery avoids it. 2026: $12.00. From Dec 21, 2026: not in UPS’s 2027 preview yet. Large Package Minimum Billable Weight Applied (UPS). A note that UPS billed the package at the 90-lb minimum that comes with the Large Package Surcharge. 2026: 90 lb minimum. Full guide: UPS Large Package Surcharge.

Large Package Surcharge - Length + Girth (UPS, code LPS). UPS Large Package Surcharge on a commercial delivery triggered by length plus girth. 2026: $219.50–$286.00 per package by zone. From Dec 21, 2026: $250.00–$330.00. Full guide: UPS Large Package Surcharge.

Missing PLD Fee (UPS, rate guide name). UPS received a physical package without the electronic Package Level Detail (PLD) shipment record and had to process it manually. 2026: $4.70 per package. From Dec 21, 2026: $5.10. Full guide: UPS Missing PLD Fee.

Missing/Invalid Account Number (FedEx). The billing account number on the shipment was missing or invalid. 2026: $25.50 per shipment. From Jan 4, 2027: $27. Full guide: FedEx Payer Rebilling and Invalid Account fees.

Missing/Invalid Account Number or Refusal Fee (UPS, rate guide name). Charged when the bill-to account number on the label is missing or invalid. 2026: $25.25. From Dec 21, 2026: $27.50. Full guide: How to audit a UPS invoice.

O

On-Call Pickup (UPS, rate guide name). A one-time pickup request, charged per request no matter how many packages are picked up. 2026: $9.65 future day, $15.75 same day. From Dec 21, 2026: $10.50 and $17.25. Full guide: UPS Pickup Fees.

Over Maximum Limits (UPS, rate guide name). A penalty for a package over 150 lbs, longer than 108 inches, or over 165 inches in length plus girth, which UPS doesn’t accept as a small package. 2026: $1,875.00 per package. From Dec 21, 2026: $2,034.50. Full guide: UPS Over Maximum Limits.

Oversize Charge (FedEx). The package was over 96 inches long, 130 inches in length plus girth, 17,280 cubic inches or 110 lbs. A 90-lb minimum billable weight applies. 2026: $255–$330 per package by zone. From Jan 4, 2027: $270–$355. Full guide: FedEx Oversize Charge.

Payer Rebilling (FedEx). Who pays was changed after the shipment was created, or a billed recipient or third party refused to pay. 2026: $25.50 per shipment. From Jan 4, 2027: $27. Full guide: FedEx Payer Rebilling.

Payment Processing Fee (UPS, rate guide name). An account-level fee on each invoice, excluding Declared Value and UPS insurance charges. 2026: 2% of invoice charges. From Dec 21, 2026: not in UPS’s 2027 preview yet. Full guide: How to audit a UPS invoice.

Remote Area Surcharge (UPS). UPS’s surcharge for the most remote ZIP codes, including Alaska and Hawaii, separate from the Delivery Area Surcharge. 2026: $16.50 (lower 48 and Hawaii), $46.25 (Alaska). From Dec 21, 2026: $18.00 and $49.75. Full guide: UPS Delivery Area Surcharge.

Reroute of Shipment (FedEx). FedEx rerouted the package. It is billed at the address correction amount and can also show as an address correction. 2026: $25.50 per package. From Jan 4, 2027: $27. Full guide: FedEx Address Correction.

Residential Adjustment (UPS). Often appears next to a Residential Surcharge Adjustment when UPS reclassified a package shipped as commercial to residential. 2026: see Residential Surcharge Adjustment. Full guide: UPS Residential Surcharge.

Residential Delivery Chg. (FedEx). FedEx’s Residential Delivery Charge, applied when FedEx classifies the delivery address as a home. 2026: $6.45 Ground and Home Delivery, $6.95 Express. From Jan 4, 2027: $6.90 and $7.35. Full guide: FedEx Residential Delivery Charge.

Residential Surcharge (UPS, code RES). UPS’s fee for delivery to a home, including a business run from a home. It is listed under the package next to the service line, such as “Ground Residential.” 2026: $6.50 Ground, $7.00 Air and 3 Day Select. From Dec 21, 2026: $7.10 and $7.60. Residential Surcharge Adjustment (UPS). UPS reclassified a package you shipped as commercial to residential after delivery and added the residential surcharge then. 2026: $6.50 Ground, $7.00 Air. From Dec 21, 2026: $7.10 and $7.60. Full guide: UPS Residential Surcharge.

Saturday Air Processing Fee (UPS, rate guide name). Added to eligible domestic Air packages UPS picks up on a Saturday. 2026: $16.00 per package. From Dec 21, 2026: not in UPS’s 2027 preview yet. Full guide: UPS Saturday Pickup.

An extra fee when your corrections average more than $1.00 per corrected package in an invoice week, calculated per account number. 2026: greater of $1.65 per corrected package or 12% of the corrections. What to Check First

• Adjustment and correction lines. Anything with “Adjustment” or “Shipping Charge Correction” in the name was added after shipping. Compare it with your own address type, weight and dimensions for that tracking number.
• Fuel on disputed charges. If a surcharge is wrong, the fuel billed on it is wrong too. Dispute both.
• Default settings. Declared value, signature and Saturday lines on packages that didn’t need them usually come from a shipping software rule, not a carrier error.
• Deadlines. UPS allows 180 days from receiving the invoice to request an adjustment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I read a UPS invoice?

Each package is listed with its service line, such as “Ground Residential,” and its surcharges and fuel underneath. Charges added later sit in their own sections: Address Corrections, Shipping Charge Corrections, and Adjustments & Other Charges. The billing data file (CSV, XML or EDI 210) shows the same charges with codes such as RES or EVS.

What does “Residential Surcharge Adjustment” mean on my UPS invoice?

UPS reclassified a package you shipped as commercial to residential after delivery and added the Residential Surcharge then: $6.50 for Ground and $7.00 for Air in 2026. If the address is a business, check it and dispute it.

What is a Shipping Charge Correction on a UPS invoice?

It is a re-bill after UPS re-measured, re-weighed or reclassified a package. The line starts with “Shipping Charge Correction” followed by the charge name. If corrections average more than $1.00 per corrected package in a week, UPS also adds the Shipping Charge Correction Audit Fee.

Why does my FedEx invoice just say “Additional Handling”?

FedEx uses the same invoice label for all three Additional Handling triggers: dimensions, weight over 50 lbs and non-standard packaging. Check the package’s billed dimensions and weight to see which one applied.

What do “DAS Comm.” and “DAS Resi.” mean on a FedEx invoice?

They are FedEx’s abbreviations for the Delivery Area Surcharge on commercial ($4.45) and residential ($6.60) deliveries in 2026, charged when the destination ZIP code is on FedEx’s DAS list.

How long do I have to dispute a UPS invoice charge?

Under Section 53.1 of the UPS Tariff, invoice adjustment requests must be received within 180 days of receiving the invoice, or the dispute is waived. Short-paying the invoice does not count as a dispute.
