UPS Pickup Fees 2026: Smart Pickup, Daily Pickup and On-Call Costs

UPS Pickup Fees 2026: Smart Pickup, Daily Pickup and On-Call Costs

2026 UPS rate: a one-time UPS On-Call Pickup costs $9.65 per request for a future day or $15.75 for the same day, and recurring pickups cost $18.50 a week for UPS Smart Pickup or $39.00 a week for Daily Pickup at Daily Rates.

2027 update: UPS Daily Rates rise an average net 5.9% effective December 21, 2026, but UPS has not yet published 2027 surcharge and fee amounts, so the figures below are 2026 rates. We will update this post when UPS publishes them; see our UPS 2027 rate increase guide. Source: UPS shipping rates, Important Updates.

Quick answer: UPS charges for pickup because a driver stop at your location is a separate service from moving the package. Businesses that ship regularly pay a weekly Scheduled Pickup fee (Smart, Daily, Daily On-Route or Day-Specific). Occasional shippers pay per On-Call Pickup request, no matter how many packages are picked up, plus extra charges if the pickup is from a home. Dropping prepaid packages at a UPS location avoids pickup fees because no pickup is requested.

Why UPS Charges for Pickup

The UPS Tariff treats pickup as its own service. Section 19 says an additional charge for UPS On-Call Pickup service will be assessed when you request one, and Section 18 says a weekly service charge applies to each Scheduled Pickup option. Your shipping charges pay for transporting the packages; the pickup fee pays for sending a driver to your door.

The On-Call fee is applied per pickup request regardless of the number of packages being picked up, so one pickup of ten packages costs the same as one pickup of one package.

Extra Charges When the Pickup Is From a Home

One-time pickups from a residence add charges on top of the On-Call fee:

ChargeWhen it applies2026 fee
Residential Surcharge (On-Call Pickup)Any UPS On-Call Pickup from a home, including a business operating out of a home$6.50
UPS On-Call Pickup Area SurchargeResidential On-Call Pickup requests in certain ZIP codes in the 48 contiguous states; does not apply at commercial addressesResidential $6.55; Extended Residential $8.85
Remote Area SurchargeOn-Call Pickup requests in certain ZIP codes in Alaska, Hawaii and the 48 contiguous statesListed at $16.50 for the 48 states and Hawaii and $46.25 for Alaska

The rate guide also notes that fuel surcharges may apply to On-Call Pickup charges. UPS publishes the ZIP codes that carry area and remote surcharges in its Area Surcharge Listing at ups.com/rates.

Here is how the charges stack for a same-day On-Call Pickup from a home in a ZIP code that carries the residential On-Call area surcharge: $15.75 + $6.50 + $6.55 = $28.80 before fuel. A future-day pickup at the same address would be $9.65 + $6.50 + $6.55 = $22.70 before fuel.

Smart Pickup vs. Daily Pickup: Which Costs Less?

At list prices, Smart Pickup at $18.50 a week is less than half of Daily Pickup at $39.00. The trade-off is that Smart Pickup only triggers when you process a shipment in a UPS shipping system before the cutoff. The cheapest recurring option on paper is Daily On-Route Pickup at $11.25 a week, but the driver comes while making deliveries in your area, so you do not control the time.

UPS can move you between options. The rate guide and Section 18 of the tariff say UPS may shift locations that ship four or more times per week from Smart Pickup to Daily Pickup, and accounts that do not ship through WorldShip, UPS CampusShip or ups.com shipping from Smart Pickup to Daily Pickup. It may also shift locations that ship four or fewer times per week from Daily Pickup to Smart Pickup.

Section 18 also says the weekly service charge for Daily, Daily On-Route and Day-Specific Pickup is based on the account's weekly billing total as reflected in the UPS billing system. If your weekly pickup charge does not match the list amount, compare it with the pricing in your UPS agreement.

How to Avoid or Reduce UPS Pickup Fees

  • Drop off instead. UPS Access Point locations and The UPS Store accept prepaid UPS packages, and no pickup fee applies when you do not request a pickup.
  • Book future-day pickups. A future-day On-Call Pickup is $6.10 less than a same-day one.
  • Batch packages into one pickup. The On-Call fee is per request, not per package.
  • Match the schedule to your volume. If you ship two or three days a week, Day-Specific Pickup ($15.75 or $23.25) or Smart Pickup ($18.50) can cost less than Daily Pickup ($39.00).
  • Check the weekly charge on your invoice. Make sure the pickup option billed is the one your location actually uses and that the amount matches your agreement.
