FedEx Overnight Shipping Cost 2026: Package Rates by Weight and Zone

FedEx Overnight Shipping Cost 2026: Package Rates by Weight and Zone

2026 FedEx list rates: a 1 lb overnight package costs $40.82–$99.65 with Standard Overnight, $45.22–$113.48 with Priority Overnight and $76.22–$144.48 with First Overnight, depending on zone, before fuel and other surcharges.

Quick answer: FedEx prices an overnight package by service, billable weight and zone. A 10 lb package costs $61.93 by Standard Overnight in zone 2 and $193.81 in zone 8. On top of the rate you pay a weekly fuel surcharge (32.50% for Express package services the week of October 26, 2026), $6.95 if the package goes to a home and $16 for Saturday delivery. List rates rise an average of 5.9% on January 4, 2027.

These are FedEx standard list rates. Accounts with negotiated discounts pay less on the transportation rate, which is why a carrier invoice audit should compare what you were billed against your own contract, not the list.

2026 rates: FedEx Service Guide, standard list rates effective January 5, 2026 (updated September 11, 2026). Fuel: FedEx fuel surcharge page, checked October 29, 2026. 2027 rates: FedEx 2027 Standard List Rates.

First Overnight costs exactly $31 more than Priority Overnight at every weight shown here: $96.00 for 10 lb in zone 2 and $232.47 in zone 8. A FedEx Envelope (up to 8 oz.) starts at $35.26 by Standard Overnight in zone 2; see our FedEx overnight envelope guide for every envelope rate.

How FedEx Calculates an Overnight Price

  • Zone. Set by origin and destination ZIP code. FedEx says zone alignments can change without notice, so check its rate tool for a specific lane.
  • Billable weight. The greater of actual weight and dimensional weight. FedEx divides length × width × height in inches by 139, and fractions of an inch and of a pound round up. A light but bulky box can bill at a much higher weight; see FedEx dimensional weight.
  • Service. First, Priority and Standard Overnight each have their own rate column. The table prices above are per package.
  • Surcharges. Added after the rate, and most of them also carry fuel.

Surcharges That Raise the Price

Charge2026 amountWhen it applies
Fuel surcharge32.50% (Oct 26–Nov 1, 2026)Every Express package; changes weekly with the U.S. Gulf Coast jet fuel price
Residential Delivery Charge$6.95 per packageDelivery to a home or private residence
Saturday Delivery$16 per packageYou request Saturday delivery (First, Priority, Standard Overnight and 2Day)
Delivery Signature Options$7.60 Indirect or Direct; $10 AdultYou select a signature option
Delivery Area SurchargeVaries by area typeDestination ZIP is in a FedEx delivery area surcharge list
Demand SurchargeVaries by periodFedEx peak periods; see our FedEx demand surcharge guide

FedEx applies the Express fuel surcharge to the net package rate plus listed surcharges, including the Residential Delivery Charge, Saturday Delivery, Delivery Area Surcharge, Delivery Signature Options and Demand Surcharge. So fuel grows with every add-on.

Example: 5 lb Standard Overnight to a Home in Zone 5

LineAmount
Standard Overnight rate, 5 lb, zone 5$120.63
Residential Delivery Charge$6.95
Fuel surcharge, 32.50% of rate plus residential$41.46
Total at list rates$169.04

A Saturday delivery request would add $16 plus fuel on that $16. Account discounts would lower the rate line and, with it, the fuel line.

FedEx One Rate for Overnight Boxes

FedEx One Rate is a flat price for FedEx-branded packaging that already includes residential surcharges, delivery area surcharges and fuel. Boxes must weigh 50 lb or less and no account discounts apply. Saturday delivery, signature options and declared value are still extra. Prices in the current Service Guide for a FedEx Small Box:

One Rate zoneStandard OvernightPriority OvernightFirst Overnight
Local (zone 2)$54.75$61.45$115.45
Regional (zones 3–4)$77.05$107.85$161.85
National (zones 5–8)$101.75$148.20$202.20

In the zone 5 example above, a 5 lb Standard Overnight package to a home costs $169.04 at list rates with fuel and the residential charge. If the same contents fit a FedEx Small Box, One Rate Standard Overnight in the National zone is $101.75 all-in for those three charges. Compare both for your own account, because discounted list rates can change the answer.

2027 update: From January 4, 2027, FedEx standard list rates for U.S. package services increase an average of 5.9%. A 1 lb package becomes $43.22–$104.54 by Standard Overnight, $48.34–$120.86 by Priority Overnight and $79.34–$151.86 by First Overnight (zones 2–8). The Express Residential Delivery Charge rises from $6.95 to $7.35 per package. Sources: FedEx 2027 Standard List Rates and FedEx 2027 surcharge and fee changes.

How to Pay Less for FedEx Overnight

  • Use Standard Overnight when afternoon delivery is fine. For a 1 lb package it saves $4.40 in zone 2 and $13.83 in zone 8 versus Priority Overnight.
  • Reserve First Overnight for true early-morning needs. The $31 premium over Priority applies to every package.
  • Measure boxes. Right-sized cartons keep dimensional weight close to actual weight.
  • Price One Rate for small, dense shipments to homes or far zones, since it bundles fuel, residential and delivery area charges.
  • Only request Saturday delivery and signatures when needed. Both are per-package fees and both carry fuel.
  • Claim late deliveries. FedEx Standard, Priority and First Overnight are currently covered by the FedEx Money-Back Guarantee for U.S. payers, but you must request the credit within 15 calendar days of the invoice date.
