How Much Does It Cost to Ship Golf Clubs? 2026 Rates by Carrier

2026 cost to ship golf clubs: a full set in a 52 x 13 x 13 in golf box (30 lb) is billed as 64 lb and costs $62.43 to $141.62 by UPS or FedEx Ground (Zones 2, 5 and 8, including the Additional Handling fee, before fuel and residential fees), or $100.50 to $227.30 by USPS Ground Advantage. The cheapest published price is $62.43 by FedEx Ground to Zone 2; UPS Ground is cheapest to Zone 5 ($97.36) and Zone 8 ($140.79).
Quick answer: A golf bag box is long and fairly light. The 52 in example box bills at 64 lb dimensional weight, and because it is longer than 48 in, UPS and FedEx add Additional Handling ($29.50–$40.75). USPS accepts it (104 in length plus girth) but adds $31.00 in nonstandard fees on Ground Advantage. A single club in a 48 x 4 x 4 in box costs $22.50 to $33.15 by USPS Ground Advantage, the cheapest option to a home. Shipping a soft travel bag without a box can add an Additional Handling – Packaging fee.

2027 update: UPS Daily Rates rise an average net 5.9% on December 21, 2026. In the UPS 2027 daily rate preview, the 64 lb UPS Ground rate goes from $33.23–$100.29 to $35.20–$106.21 (Zones 2–8), Additional Handling – Dimensions rises to $32.75–$44.00, its minimum billable weight rises from 40 to 50 lb and the Ground residential surcharge becomes $7.10. FedEx list rates rise an average 5.9% on January 4, 2027, with the dimension surcharge at $31.75–$43.75 and the Ground residential charge at $6.90. USPS holiday prices end January 17, 2027. Golf box sizes and billable weight
These are example boxes: a golf bag shipping box sized for a full set in a stand or cart bag, and a narrow box for a single club. Measure your own packed box and check it in our dimensional weight calculator.
| Example box | Actual weight | Cubic inches | Dimensional weight (÷139) | Length + girth | Billed weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Golf bag box, 52 x 13 x 13 in | 30 lb | 8,788 | 8,788 ÷ 139 = 63.22, rounded up to 64 lb | 104 in | 64 lb at UPS, FedEx and USPS |
| Single club box, 48 x 4 x 4 in | 3 lb | 768 | 768 ÷ 139 = 5.53, rounded up to 6 lb | 64 in | 6 lb at UPS and FedEx; 3 lb at USPS (under 1 cubic foot, so no dimensional weight) |
UPS and FedEx apply dimensional weight to every package; USPS only to parcels over 1 cubic foot (1,728 cubic inches). All three use the 139 divisor and round each side up to the next inch (USPS Dimensional Weight 2026: The New 139 Divisor Explained). The 52 in box is longer than 48 in, so UPS and FedEx add Additional Handling – Dimensions with a 40 lb minimum billable weight. The 48 in single-club box is not over 48 in, so it does not, as long as it measures 48 in or less after rounding up.
Cost to ship a full set of golf clubs (52 x 13 x 13 in, 30 lb)
| Service (billed weight) | Zone 2 | Zone 5 | Zone 8 |
|---|---|---|---|
| UPS Ground daily rate (64 lb) + Additional Handling – Length | $33.23 + $30.00 = $63.23 | $58.86 + $38.50 = $97.36 | $100.29 + $40.50 = $140.79 |
| FedEx Ground list rate (64 lb) + Additional Handling – Dimension | $32.93 + $29.50 = $62.43 | $59.65 + $38.50 = $98.15 | $100.87 + $40.75 = $141.62 |
| USPS Ground Advantage retail (64 lb) + $31.00 nonstandard fees | $69.50 + $31.00 = $100.50 | $128.30 + $31.00 = $159.30 | $196.30 + $31.00 = $227.30 |
| USPS Priority Mail retail (64 lb) + $56.00 nonstandard fees | $78.00 + $56.00 = $134.00 | $156.75 + $56.00 = $212.75 | $239.35 + $56.00 = $295.35 |
USPS nonstandard fees for this box are the over-30-inch length fee ($10.00 Ground Advantage, $21.00 Priority Mail) plus the over-2-cubic-feet fee ($21.00 or $35.00) (USPS Nonstandard Fees 2026). Delivery to a home adds the residential surcharge: $6.50 per package for UPS Ground and $6.45 for FedEx Home Delivery in 2026 (UPS guide; FedEx Service Guide). See UPS Residential Surcharge 2026 and FedEx Residential Delivery Charge 2026.
Peak season adds a demand surcharge on Additional Handling packages: at UPS, $8.75 through November 21, 2026 and $11.90 from November 22 to December 26, 2026; at FedEx, $8.80 to $11.85 during its 2026 peak.
Cost to ship a single golf club (48 x 4 x 4 in, 3 lb)
| Service (billed weight) | Zone 2 | Zone 5 | Zone 8 |
|---|---|---|---|
| UPS Ground daily rate (6 lb) | $14.24 | $18.74 | $21.73 |
| FedEx Ground list rate (6 lb) | $14.17 | $18.60 | $21.70 |
| USPS Ground Advantage retail (3 lb) + $10.00 length fee | $12.50 + $10.00 = $22.50 | $15.70 + $10.00 = $25.70 | $23.15 + $10.00 = $33.15 |
| USPS Priority Mail retail (3 lb) + $21.00 length fee | $13.80 + $21.00 = $34.80 | $19.05 + $21.00 = $40.05 | $28.10 + $21.00 = $49.10 |
A round mailing tube would also meet the USPS $4.50 nonstandard-characteristic fee, but USPS charges only the higher of a length fee and a characteristic fee. At UPS and FedEx, mailing tubes and other cylindrical packages are an Additional Handling – Packaging trigger, so a square box is the safer choice.
Estimated cost to a home, with fuel
This estimate adds the residential surcharge and applies the current fuel percentage to the whole UPS or FedEx charge, including Additional Handling. It leaves out demand and delivery area surcharges. USPS prices include delivery to any address.
| Estimated to a home | Zone 2 | Zone 5 | Zone 8 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Golf bag box: UPS Ground (+ $6.50, fuel 30.25%) | $90.82 | $135.28 | $191.85 |
| Golf bag box: FedEx Home Delivery (+ $6.45, fuel 29.25%) | $89.03 | $135.20 | $191.38 |
| Golf bag box: USPS Ground Advantage | $100.50 | $159.30 | $227.30 |
| Single club: UPS Ground (+ $6.50, fuel 30.25%) | $27.01 | $32.88 | $36.77 |
| Single club: FedEx Home Delivery (+ $6.45, fuel 29.25%) | $26.65 | $32.38 | $36.38 |
| Single club: USPS Ground Advantage | $22.50 | $25.70 | $33.15 |
UPS and FedEx rates exclude fuel. The UPS Ground fuel surcharge is 30.25% effective November 2, 2026, and UPS lists Additional Handling, Large Package and Residential surcharges among the charges fuel applies to (UPS accessorial fuel list). FedEx Ground and Home Delivery fuel is 29.25% for November 2–8, 2026. Both change weekly. USPS prices include fuel and residential delivery.
On these estimates the cheapest way to send the golf bag box to a home is FedEx Home Delivery in all three zones. For a single club, USPS Ground Advantage is cheapest in all three zones because it includes residential delivery and fuel.
Golf travel bag vs. box: how to pack
- A box is cheaper to ship than a bare travel bag. UPS and FedEx charge Additional Handling – Packaging (UPS $26.75–$33.75, FedEx $26.50–$33.75 by zone) for items not fully encased in corrugated cardboard, in canvas or plastic outer containers, or with straps, handles or wheels. A soft or hard travel cover on its own usually meets those tests. If the bag is also over 48 in long, UPS charges one Additional Handling fee, by length.
- Protect the driver head and shafts. Use head covers, wrap the club heads together and add a stiff support taller than the longest club so the box takes impacts, not the clubs.
- Measure the packed box, bulges included. Carriers measure at the extreme points and round up, so a bag that pushes the box sides out bills at a larger size.
- Keep it at or under 108 in length plus girth if you want USPS Priority Mail as an option, and under 48 in long if the clubs fit, to avoid Additional Handling.
- Drop off at a carrier counter. UPS Access Point locations do not take packages over 44 lb or longer than 38 in.
Timing a golf trip
UPS Ground and FedEx Ground deliver in one to five business days depending on distance, so ship a week ahead for a cross-country trip. If time is short, compare two-day services in 2-Day Shipping Cost 2026: UPS 2nd Day Air vs FedEx 2Day vs USPS; they also bill on dimensional weight, so a golf box costs far more by air. Around the holidays, check Holiday Shipping Deadlines 2026: USPS, UPS and FedEx Compared.
Declared value and insurance for golf clubs
UPS and FedEx cover $100 per package unless you declare more. UPS charges $5.10 for $100.01–$300 and $1.70 per $100 of total value above $300, so declaring $1,500 costs $25.50. FedEx charges $4.95 for $100.01–$300 and $1.65 per $100 over $300. USPS includes $100 of insurance on Ground Advantage and Priority Mail; $1,500 of coverage costs $22.55. When a golf or luggage shipping service may be worth it
Golf and luggage shipping services sell a door-to-door price for a travel bag, usually with pickup, labels, tracking and some loss coverage, and often ship on discounted carrier accounts. They can make sense when you do not have a box, need delivery to a resort or club on a set date, or want someone else to handle a claim. Compare their quote with the all-in estimate above for your zone and check the coverage limit and any packing requirements.

UPS rates here are Daily Rates, the published rates for account holders. Packages shipped at The UPS Store and other retail locations are billed at UPS Retail Rates instead, and UPS says the Ground fuel surcharge does not apply to UPS Ground packages from the 48 states billed at Retail rates (UPS fuel surcharge page). FedEx Ground rates are FedEx list rates. Shipping software and contracts usually price below both, and USPS commercial prices (through shipping software) are lower than the retail prices shown; see USPS Ground Advantage Pricing for Businesses.
