2026 Christmas shipping deadlines: the last recommended ship dates are December 17 for USPS Ground Advantage, December 18 for Priority Mail, December 19 for Priority Mail Express, December 21 for UPS 3 Day Select and FedEx Express Saver, December 22 for UPS 2nd Day Air and FedEx 2Day, and December 23 for UPS Next Day Air and FedEx overnight services. Quick answer: All three carriers have published their 2026 holiday dates. USPS targets delivery before December 25, while UPS and FedEx publish dates for delivery by Thursday, December 24. UPS does not publish a single Ground date; it tells shippers to check transit time for each route. All three carriers are closed on Thanksgiving (November 26), Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year’s Day (January 1, 2027).

2026 Christmas Ship-By Dates: USPS vs UPS vs FedEx
Domestic shipments within the contiguous U.S. Dates are each carrier’s published last day to ship. USPS dates are for expected delivery before December 25; UPS and FedEx dates are for delivery by December 24.
| Service level | USPS | UPS | FedEx |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ground / economy | Ground Advantage: Thu, Dec 17 | UPS Ground: no single date published; UPS says check ups.com/ctc | Ground and Home Delivery: Dec 17 (5-day transit), Dec 18 (4-day), Dec 21 (3-day), Dec 22 (2-day), Dec 23 (1-day). Ground Economy: Tue, Dec 15 |
| 3-day | Priority Mail (2–3 days): Fri, Dec 18 | 3 Day Select: Mon, Dec 21 | Express Saver: Mon, Dec 21 |
| 2-day | Priority Mail (above) | 2nd Day Air: Tue, Dec 22 | 2Day and 2Day A.M.: Tue, Dec 22 |
| Overnight | Priority Mail Express (1–3 days): Sat, Dec 19 | Next Day Air: Wed, Dec 23 | First, Priority and Standard Overnight: Wed, Dec 23 |
| Same day | — | — | FedEx SameDay: Thu, Dec 24 |
| Letters and cards | First-Class Mail: Thu, Dec 17 | — | — |
Two details matter when you read this table. USPS Priority Mail Express is sold as a 1–3 day service, so USPS sets its date earlier than UPS and FedEx set their overnight dates. And UPS points out that a limited number of 2nd Day Air packages tendered December 14, 15, 16 or 21, and 3 Day Select packages tendered December 14 or 15, may need an extra day in transit, so the published dates are not a guarantee.
FedEx freight services follow the same pattern: 1Day Freight by December 23, 2Day Freight by December 22 and 3Day Freight by December 21. Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. territories have different rules for USPS Ground Advantage (10 days or more in transit), so check the USPS Service Commitments tool for those routes.

| Mexico | Same as Canada (Dec 9 / Dec 16) | Worldwide Expedited: Dec 21; Worldwide Express: Dec 22 | International Priority, First and Next Flight: Dec 22; International Economy: Dec 21 |
| Other countries | Dec 9 for Priority Mail International; Dec 16 for Priority Mail Express International (all regions USPS lists) | Check ups.com/ctc | Check FedEx transit times by destination |

UPS Standard to Canada and Mexico and FedEx International Ground to Canada vary by origin and destination; neither carrier publishes a single date. For USPS, the full international and military tables are on the USPS holiday page.
Key Closed and Modified Days
| Date | USPS | UPS | FedEx |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wed, Nov 11 (Veterans Day) | Closed | Open | Modified service |
| Thu, Nov 26 (Thanksgiving) | Closed | Closed | Closed |
| Fri, Nov 27 (Black Friday) | Open | Open | Modified service |
| Thu, Dec 24 (Christmas Eve) | Open | Normal delivery; pickups only for Air and international Air if prearranged by Dec 18 | Modified service; modified Ground pickups |
| Fri, Dec 25 (Christmas) | Closed | Closed | Closed |
| Sat, Dec 26 | Open (Saturday delivery) | Delivery of Air packages labeled for Saturday only | Open |
| Thu, Dec 31 (New Year’s Eve) | Open | Air and international Air delivery only; Air pickups if prearranged by Dec 28 | Modified service; modified Ground pickups |
| Fri, Jan 1, 2027 (New Year’s Day) | Closed | Closed | Closed |
“Modified service” is FedEx’s term; on those days FedEx notes early on-call and drop box pickups in some areas. On UPS holidays (November 26, December 25 and January 1), UPS says no packages move, whatever day they were tendered. Holiday Delivery Times and Guarantees
- UPS: For Air and international Air packages scheduled for delivery November 27, 2026 through January 2, 2027, UPS extends commitment times. Next Day Air Early moves out 90 minutes, commercial Next Day Air and 2nd Day Air A.M. move to 3:00 p.m., and residential Next Day Air goes to end of day. UPS says its Service Guarantee is currently in effect only for select Air and international services. From November 16, 2026 to January 8, 2027, some Ground packages need extra transit time.
- USPS: The Priority Mail Express money-back guarantee does not cover 1-Day items mailed December 22 through December 25 that are delivered or attempted within 2 business days (DMM 604.9.5.5). See our Priority Mail Express guarantee guide.
- FedEx: FedEx Ground and Home Delivery dates assume a regularly scheduled pickup or a drop-off at a staffed FedEx location, and FedEx notes its dates are subject to change.
Peak Season Charges on Holiday Shipments
Shipping at the deadline also means shipping at peak prices. USPS raised Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, Ground Advantage and Parcel Select prices temporarily from October 4, 2026 until January 17, 2027. UPS and FedEx add separate per-package demand surcharges that change by week and service. Details are in our USPS peak season, UPS peak surcharge and FedEx demand surcharge guides.
How to Use These Dates
- Set your store’s cutoff a day or two earlier than the carrier date to leave time to pick, pack and get the package scanned.
- Use the ground dates first. Ground Advantage on December 17 and FedEx Ground on the date that matches your transit time usually cost less than overnight on December 23.
- Check transit time for each route. UPS Ground, FedEx Ground and USPS service to Alaska and Hawaii all depend on origin and destination ZIP Codes.
- Plan pickups around Christmas Eve. UPS only picks up prearranged Air packages on December 24 (book by December 18), and FedEx modifies Ground pickups that day.
- Audit late deliveries after the season. Where a guarantee still applies, a refund claim depends on catching the late package inside the carrier’s filing window. Compare upgrade costs in our 2-day and overnight rate guides.
