The 2026 FedEx General Rate Increase

In its September 18, 2025 earnings release, FedEx said that effective January 5, 2026, FedEx parcel and FedEx Freight LTL shipping rates would increase by an average of 5.9%. The 2026 Service Guide says its standard list rates are effective January 5, 2026 and supersede the rates in the January 6, 2025 Service Guide. The 2026 Standard List Rates PDF carries an "updated June 1, 2026" date.

An average is an average. Individual service, zone and weight cells moved by different amounts, and surcharges were priced separately. Your real increase depends on your mix of services, zones, weights and accessorials, and on whether your agreement discounts surcharges or caps increases. For comparison, UPS's 2026 increase also averaged 5.9%, effective December 22, 2025. See our UPS 2026 rate change guide.

Changes FedEx Made During 2026

  • January 19 and April 20, 2026: FedEx's rate changes page lists 2026 FedEx One Rate pricing as effective January 19, 2026, and a footnote in the One Rate pricing PDF marks some rates as effective April 20, 2026.
  • July 20, 2026: the Disbursement Fee went from the greater of $15 or 2% to the greater of $17.50 or 2.5% of duty, tax and merchandise processing fee charges, and new Delivery Area and Pickup Area Surcharge ZIP code lists took effect (FedEx rate changes page).
  • August 3, 2026: the U.S. Inbound Processing Fee was renamed the Inbound Processing Fee and extended to shipments destined to EU member states.
  • September 11, 2026: the Service Guide PDF was updated.
  • Peak season: FedEx demand surcharges apply on top of all of the above. See FedEx's demand surcharge page and our FedEx demand surcharge guide.

Has FedEx Announced Its 2027 Rate Increase?

Yes. FedEx's rate changes page, updated October 23, 2026, says FedEx package standard list rates for U.S., U.S. export and U.S. import services will increase an average of 5.9% effective January 4, 2027. FedEx Ground Economy, Ground Multiweight, International Premium and International Priority DirectDistribution rates and minimum rates will also go up. The 2027 standard list rates and 2027 surcharge changes are already posted. For the full breakdown, see our FedEx 2027 rate increase guide.

Other dated 2027 changes on the same page:

  • January 4, 2027: new Delivery Area and Pickup Area Surcharge ZIP code lists.
  • January 18, 2027: a Paper Document Fee of $25 per shipment when a trade document is provided on paper and needs manual processing, and a Paper Air Waybill Fee of $5 per shipment for U.S. domestic and export shipments initiated with manual paper airbills. The Residential Delivery Charge will also apply to qualifying international shipments to select destination countries and to the U.S. and Canada.
  • February 1, 2027: zone classification changes for select U.S. domestic origin-destination ZIP code pairs.

Several 2027 surcharges rise faster than the 5.9% average: extended residential delivery area goes up 9.1% ($8.80 to $9.60) and Direct Signature Required 7.2% ($7.60 to $8.15).

How to Prepare for the January 2027 Increase

  • Re-rate a recent month of invoices at 2027 rates. Use your actual service, zone and surcharge mix, not the 5.9% headline.
  • Check which surcharges your agreement discounts. A discount on transportation does not cover residential, delivery area or signature charges unless the agreement says so.
  • Review default signature settings. Signature fees are rising faster than base rates.
  • Check the new DAS ZIP list and the February 1 zone changes against your main shipping lanes.
  • Move paper customs documents and airbills to electronic before January 18, 2027 to avoid the new fees.
  • Negotiate before renewal. See our contract negotiation guide.
