FedEx Money-Back Guarantee 2026: Covered Services and How to Claim

FedEx Money-Back Guarantee 2026: Covered Services and How to Claim

2026 FedEx rule: FedEx refunds or credits transportation charges when a covered package arrives 60 seconds or more after its delivery commitment, but for U.S. payers the guarantee currently covers only First Overnight, Priority Overnight, Standard Overnight, 2Day A.M. and six international express services.

Quick answer: FedEx reinstated its Money-Back Guarantee for U.S. overnight services and 2Day A.M. on January 13, 2026, and for six international express services on February 12, 2026. It remains suspended for every other FedEx service, including FedEx Ground, Home Delivery, 2Day and Express Saver. To get a refund you must request it within 15 calendar days of the invoice date, and FedEx will not pay in a list of exception cases, such as a package due the Wednesday before Thanksgiving that arrives within 90 minutes of its commitment, or one due in the 7 days before Christmas that arrives by the end of its commitment date.

Late-delivery credits are only paid when someone asks for them. A carrier invoice audit compares delivery scans to the commitment for every eligible package.

Which FedEx Services Are Covered Right Now

Status (U.S. payers)Services
Covered (U.S. domestic)FedEx First Overnight, FedEx Priority Overnight, FedEx Standard Overnight, FedEx 2Day A.M., and the First, Priority and Standard Overnight Extra Hours contract services

FedEx also states that shipments delayed by regulatory changes are not eligible. The Service Guide still describes a FedEx Home Delivery money-back guarantee, but FedEx’s guarantee page controls which services are active, and Home Delivery is not on the current list.

How the Guarantee Changed in 2025 and 2026

  • December 1, 2025: FedEx suspended the guarantee for the U.S. overnight services, 2Day A.M. and six international express services, citing seasonal volume and a temporary reduction in fleet capacity while MD-11 safety reviews were underway.
  • January 13, 2026: reinstated for U.S. domestic First, Priority and Standard Overnight, 2Day A.M. and the Extra Hours services, for packages shipped on or after that date.
  • February 12, 2026: reinstated for the six international services on all lanes.

FedEx says the guarantee can be suspended, modified or revoked at its sole discretion without prior notice, and that there are no delivery commitments while it is suspended. Check the page before you count on it.

What Counts as a Late Delivery

A service failure is delivery 60 seconds or more after the published delivery commitment for the service and destination. The commitment moves in these cases:

  • Holidays: deliveries scheduled on a holiday go the next business day, and local holidays extend the commitment by the length of the holiday.
  • Later delivery requested: if the shipper or recipient asks for a later date or time before the first attempt, the commitment is adjusted.
  • Closed location: if FedEx was told the recipient is closed, the commitment becomes the next business day.
  • Peak extensions: from November 23, 2026 to January 4, 2027, FedEx extends morning commitments of 12 p.m. or earlier by 90 minutes for First Overnight, Priority Overnight, 2Day A.M. and their Extra Hours versions, plus First Overnight Freight, 1Day Freight and four inbound international services. Residential deliveries with a 1:30 p.m. commitment may also be extended by 90 minutes.

When FedEx Will Not Pay

FedEx is not obligated to refund or credit charges when:

  • It provides proof of timely delivery (date, time and, if applicable, the signer) or shows the delay was caused by a circumstance in its Liabilities Not Assumed section.
  • The payer’s account was not in good credit standing, or payment instructions were invalid, and delivery waited on payment.
  • The package was scheduled for delivery on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and arrived within 90 minutes of the commitment.
  • It was scheduled for delivery during the 7 calendar days before Christmas Day and arrived by the end of the commitment date.
  • It was rerouted to a Hold at Location address, was undeliverable or was returned.
  • It contained dangerous goods, other than dry ice as the only dangerous good.
  • The delay came from an incorrect address or ZIP code, or no appropriate or eligible person was available to accept or sign.
  • It was held for security or other regulatory reasons.
  • The package met FedEx’s oversize definition.

Limits on the Refund

  • The guarantee covers transportation charges. Credits go to the payer’s account and refunds are payable to the payer only.
  • FedEx may decline requests made by a third party other than the payer, or based on tracking information from a third party.
  • One refund or credit per package. In a multiple-piece shipment, each package is judged separately and only the late package’s share is refunded.
  • The guarantee is your exclusive remedy for a service failure on FedEx charges.

How to Request a FedEx Late Delivery Refund

  1. Meet the deadline. FedEx must receive the request within 15 calendar days of the invoice date, or within 15 calendar days of the ship date if you pay by credit card or in advance by cash, check or money order.
  2. Use an approved channel: FedEx Billing Online, the invoice adjustment feature at fedex.com, or the telephone invoice adjustment line at 1.800.463.3339 (say “billing”).
  3. Include your FedEx account number, the tracking number and the ship date.
  4. Do not short-pay instead. A partial payment, or a note explaining an unpaid charge, does not count as a refund request.

The 15-day window is the practical problem. On a weekly invoice cycle, late packages have to be found and submitted before the next one or two invoices arrive. Shippers who review invoices only once a month will be past the 15-day deadline on many of them.

FedEx vs UPS Guarantees

UPS has a similar split: its guarantee is active for its Next Day Air services and 2nd Day Air A.M. and suspended for UPS Ground, 2nd Day Air and 3 Day Select. See our UPS late delivery refund guide for its rules and claim process. USPS has its own money-back guarantee for Priority Mail Express.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does FedEx refund late deliveries?

Yes, for covered services. FedEx refunds or credits transportation charges when a First Overnight, Priority Overnight, Standard Overnight, 2Day A.M. or covered international package arrives 60 seconds or more late, unless an exception applies. You must request it.

Is the FedEx Money-Back Guarantee suspended?

Partly. As of October 2026 it is active for U.S. payers on First, Priority and Standard Overnight, 2Day A.M. and six international express services, and suspended for all other FedEx services, including Ground and Home Delivery.

How long do I have to file a FedEx money-back guarantee claim?

15 calendar days from the invoice date, or 15 calendar days from the ship date if you pay by credit card or in advance by cash, check or money order.

Does FedEx Ground have a money-back guarantee?

Not currently. FedEx Ground is not on FedEx’s list of covered services, and FedEx says the guarantee for all other services remains suspended until further notice.

Does the FedEx guarantee apply during the holidays?

With limits. From November 23, 2026 to January 4, 2027, morning commitments for First Overnight, Priority Overnight and 2Day A.M. are extended by 90 minutes, and packages due in the 7 days before Christmas only need to arrive by the end of the commitment date.

Who gets the refund, the shipper or the recipient?

The payer of the charges. FedEx credits the payer’s account or makes the refund payable to the payer only.
