Where to Buy Stamps Cheapest in 2026: Costco, Walmart, Sam's Club and USPS

Where to Buy Stamps Cheapest in 2026: Costco, Walmart, Sam's Club and USPS

A Forever stamp costs 82 cents in November 2026, so a book of 20 is $16.40 and a coil of 100 is $82.00 at the Post Office. The cheapest place to buy stamps is a warehouse club: Costco and Sam's Club both sell 100 Forever stamps for $81.75, which saves you 25 cents per 100. Walmart.com's stamp listings come from third-party sellers and cost more than face value.

Quick answer: For a household or a small office, the price difference between buying stamps at Costco, Sam's Club or the Post Office is tiny: a quarter per 100 stamps. What costs real money is buying stamps from marketplace sellers at a markup, paying a non-member surcharge, paying handling fees on small online orders, or buying "discount" stamps that turn out to be counterfeit. Buy from USPS or a big retailer at face value or less, and buy enough before a price increase.

Prices below were checked on November 4, 2026 on USPS Notice 123, the USPS Postal Store, costco.com, samsclub.com, walmart.com and staples.com. Store prices can vary by location and change often, so check before you buy.

Stamp prices compared: USPS vs Costco vs Sam's Club vs Walmart

A Costco or Sam's Club member saves 25 cents on every 100 stamps compared with USPS. An office that mails 50 letters a month (600 a year) would save about $1.50 a year. It is worth doing if you are already shopping there, but it is not a reason to drive across town. The bigger savings come from avoiding the markups and fees covered below.

What does a Forever stamp cost right now?

The Forever stamp is 82 cents. USPS raised it from 78 cents on July 12, 2026, as part of the mailing price change it filed in April (USPS news release, April 9, 2026). The current price list, Notice 123, shows $0.82 for a 1-ounce stamped letter.

On the USPS Postal Store the U.S. Flag 2026 Forever stamps were:

  • Sheet of 20 or book of 20: $16.40
  • Coil of 100: $82.00
  • Coil of 3,000: $2,460.00
  • Coil of 10,000: $8,200.00

Commemorative Forever stamps were also $16.40 for 20.

Buying online from USPS costs a little more than the counter. The Postal Store's shipping and returns terms say all stamp orders are charged a $2.10 handling fee on domestic orders up to $50.00 and $2.85 on orders over $50.00. So one book of 20 ordered online costs $18.50, or 92.5 cents a stamp. A coil of 100 costs $84.85 delivered. If you are near a Post Office, buying stamps at the counter or a self-service kiosk avoids the fee.

Costco stamps

Costco sells a 100-count of USPS Forever stamps, packaged as five books of 20, for $81.75 (Costco product page). On November 4, 2026 the online price was $81.75, and the warehouse price shown for the sample warehouse on the page was also $81.75. Costco notes that warehouse prices may vary, so check the price for your own warehouse.

  • Delivery: Costco's 2-Day Delivery fee is $3.00, but there is no separate delivery fee on 2-Day orders of $75 or more. One 100-count is $81.75, so it qualifies.
  • Limit: 10 per member.
  • Design: The design may vary, and you can't choose it when you order.
  • No Executive reward: Costco says Forever stamps are excluded from the Executive Membership 2% Reward.
  • Non-members pay more: Costco's help center says non-members are charged a 5% surcharge over member prices on costco.com (Costco non-member surcharge). That would make the 100 stamps about $85.84, more than the $82.00 USPS price. If you don't have a membership, buy from USPS.

Costco Business Delivery also lists a U.S. Flag Forever roll of 100 (Costco Business Delivery), but it only shows a price after you enter a delivery ZIP code, so we have not listed one here.

Sam's Club stamps

Sam's Club matched Costco's per-stamp price on November 4, 2026:

  • Coil of 100 Forever stamps: $81.75, with a limit of 51 per order. It was available for shipping, club pickup or delivery. Sam's Club says shipping is free for Plus members on eligible orders over $50 (Sam's Club coil of 100).
  • Book of 20 Forever stamps: $16.35, for club pickup or same-day delivery. Shipping was not available for this item (Sam's Club book of 20).

Both pages say "Prices may vary in club and online," and the prices above are the ones shown for the default club on the website. Sam's Club is a membership warehouse, so check your membership's terms before you count on these prices.

Does Walmart sell stamps?

Walmart.com has a USPS postage stamps category, but on November 4, 2026 the stamp listings we found were sold by third-party marketplace sellers, not by Walmart. When we filtered the search to items sold by Walmart, the only result was a book about stamps.

The top listing, "USPS Forever Stamps, Book of 20," was $25.99 for 20, or about $1.30 a stamp, from a marketplace seller (fulfilled by Walmart). The same listing offered 100 stamps for $102.45. Both prices are well above the 82-cent face value. Paying $25.99 for $16.40 worth of postage means paying $9.59 more than the Post Office charges.

Some listings in the same search were priced far below the 82-cent face value. We can't say whether any particular listing is genuine, but the U.S. Postal Inspection Service says USPS doesn't sell stamps below face value, and that counterfeit stamps are sold on social media and e-commerce sites through third-party vendors, often in bulk at a significant discount (USPIS counterfeit postage warning). Mail with counterfeit postage can be treated as abandoned and opened or disposed of, and USPIS notes it is illegal to purchase or use counterfeit postage.

What about Walmart stores? Walmart's website doesn't say whether stores sell stamps or at what price, and we couldn't verify an in-store price, so call your local store before you make the trip.

Office stores and online sellers

Office supply stores tend to charge more than face value online. On staples.com, a U.S. Flag Forever roll of 100 was $124.99 and a 100-stamp Thank You Forever bundle was $128.99 on November 4, 2026. That is more than $40 over the $82.00 USPS price for the same postage. Pharmacies, grocery stores and Amazon also sell stamps, but we didn't find a price we could verify on their own websites, so we have left them out.

The rule for any store or website: compare the price per stamp with 82 cents. Paying more is a convenience fee. Paying a lot less is a red flag.

Do Forever stamps lose value after a price increase?

No. On its Forever stamp listing, USPS says a Forever stamp is "always valid for the First-Class Mail 1 oz rate, even if postage rates increase" (USPS Postal Store). A Forever stamp bought for 78 cents before July 12, 2026 still mails a 1-ounce letter today. It is worth 82 cents now and will be worth whatever the price is after the next increase.

That makes Forever stamps a simple hedge: buying a year's supply before an increase locks in the old price. The savings are small, 4 cents a stamp on the July 2026 increase, or $24 on 600 letters. But there is no downside as long as you will use the stamps.

Is there a stamp price increase in January 2027?

As of November 4, 2026, USPS had not announced one. The USPS national newsroom lists no news release about new stamp prices after the July 2026 change. The Postal Explorer price change page lists only the time-limited holiday package price change that runs from October 4, 2026 to January 17, 2027.

That holiday change does not touch stamps. USPS said it affects Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage and Parcel Select, and that "no other products or services would be affected" (USPS news release, August 25, 2026). Our post on the USPS peak season surcharge covers what it means for packages.

Looking further ahead, the schedule USPS filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission in December 2025 says that, subject to approval by its Governors, it expects to change prices for its mailing products in January and July of each year after 2026. It files each change the preceding October and April (USPS rate adjustment schedule, PRC). That is a plan, not an announcement. The same filing notes that pending regulatory proposals could limit these changes to once a year. For the last increase, USPS announced its filing on April 9, 2026, about three months before the July 12 change, so watch the newsroom before you buy a large supply.

Other stamp prices

Not everything mails with one Forever stamp. Here are the current retail prices from Notice 123 and the international prices on the same price list:

ItemPriceWhat it covers
Forever stamp (1-ounce letter)$0.82Domestic letter up to 1 oz
Additional ounce$0.29Each extra ounce on a letter: 2 oz is $1.11, 3 oz is $1.40, 3.5 oz is $1.69
Postcard stamp$0.65Domestic postcard
Nonmachinable surcharge$0.49 extraSquare, rigid, lumpy or otherwise nonmachinable letters
Global Forever stamp$1.751-ounce First-Class Mail International letter or postcard to any country
Large envelope (flat), 1 oz$1.69Big envelopes; $0.29 to $0.31 more per added ounce

A square wedding invitation, for example, needs a Forever stamp plus the 49-cent nonmachinable surcharge, so $1.31 in postage for a 1-ounce piece. On the Postal Store, Global Forever stamps were $17.50 for 10.

How to save money on stamps and postage

  1. Buy at face value or less. USPS, Costco and Sam's Club all sell at 82 cents or a little less. Skip marketplace listings priced above face value.
  2. Avoid small online orders from USPS. The $2.10 handling fee adds more than 10 cents per stamp to a single book. Buy at the counter, or order a larger quantity at once.
  3. Don't pay a non-member surcharge. Costco's 5% non-member surcharge wipes out the discount and then some.
  4. Stock up on Forever stamps before an increase, but only as many as you will use.
  5. Never buy "discount" stamps from unknown sellers. USPIS says counterfeit stamps are often sold in bulk at a significant discount, as much as 50 percent off face value. USPS doesn't sell stamps below face value.
  6. Weigh anything thick. A letter over 1 ounce needs 29 cents more per ounce. Mail that comes back for postage due costs more in time than the stamp.

For businesses: stamps vs metered or online postage

If your business mails a lot of letters, stamps are not the cheapest option. Notice 123 lists a metered 1-ounce letter at $0.78, 4 cents less than the 82-cent stamp. The metered price applies to letters mailed with a postage meter, and many online postage services offer it too (check with the provider). At 50 letters a month that is $24 a year, which may not cover a meter lease or a monthly software fee. At 1,000 letters a month it is $480 a year, so it is worth pricing out. Compare the per-letter savings against the subscription or lease cost before you sign up.

If most of your postage is packages rather than letters, see our USPS Ground Advantage pricing for businesses guide. For tracked or signed letters, see USPS signature confirmation fees. And if you are cutting other routine costs, our post on ordering checks for less than your bank charges compares Costco, Walmart and Sam's Club too.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a book of stamps in 2026?

A book of 20 Forever stamps costs $16.40 at the Post Office and on the USPS Postal Store, because each Forever stamp is 82 cents. Sam's Club listed a book of 20 for $16.35 for club pickup or same-day delivery on November 4, 2026.

Does Walmart sell stamps?

On walmart.com, every Forever stamp listing we found on November 4, 2026 came from a third-party marketplace seller, not Walmart itself. The top listings were priced above face value (for example $25.99 for a book of 20). Walmart's website doesn't say whether its stores sell stamps or at what price, so call your local store to check.

Does Costco sell stamps?

Yes. Costco sells a 100-count of Forever stamps (five books of 20) for $81.75 online and at the sample warehouse shown on its website, a limit of 10 per member. Non-members pay a 5% surcharge on costco.com, which makes it more expensive than USPS.

Where is the cheapest place to buy stamps?

Costco and Sam's Club, at $81.75 for 100 Forever stamps, or 81.75 cents each. That is 25 cents less than the $82.00 USPS price for a coil of 100. Buying at a Post Office counter at face value is next. Most online marketplace listings cost more than face value.

How much is a roll of 100 stamps?

A coil of 100 Forever stamps is $82.00 from USPS, plus a $2.85 handling fee if you order it from the Postal Store online. Costco and Sam's Club both listed 100 Forever stamps at $81.75 on November 4, 2026.

Are Forever stamps still good after a price increase?

Yes. USPS says a Forever stamp is always valid for the First-Class Mail 1-ounce rate, even if postage rates go up. A stamp bought at 78 cents still mails a 1-ounce letter today, when the price is 82 cents.

Is the price of stamps going up in January 2027?

As of November 4, 2026, USPS had not announced a January 2027 stamp price change in its newsroom or on its price change page. Its schedule filed with the Postal Regulatory Commission says it expects mailing price changes each January and July, subject to approval, so check before you stock up.

The bottom line

Stamps cost about the same almost everywhere legitimate: 82 cents from USPS, or 81.75 cents at Costco and Sam's Club. Don't pay $1.25 or $1.30 a stamp to an online seller, don't pay a non-member surcharge, and don't trust stamps priced far below face value. If your business mails hundreds of letters a month, look at metered postage, and if you want a second pair of eyes on what you spend on shipping and mailing, get in touch.
